The Laurens County Future Scholarship (LCFS) funds the remaining tuition and required fees after all Federal & State financial aid has been applied. Books, program-specific fees and other costs are not included.

Details & Eligibility

  • Students must be current residents of Laurens County and have graduated from high school and enroll in the participating colleges within one academic year after their high school graduation.

  • LCFS funding is considered gap funding and is only available to students receiving Federal or State grant or scholarship aid. "Gap funding" is defined as funding used for the purpose of paying all or a portion of the difference between a student's total cost of tuition and the amount of grant or scholarship aid such student has been awarded.

  • LCFS funding is based on in-state tuition rates and will not exceed the per credit hour cap set annually by the LCFS Board of Directors.

  • lf awarded, the scholarship is available for two consecutive academic years, for a maximum of four terms, excluding Summer. Students receiving LCFS funding who complete their chosen major within this time period are ineligible for additional LCFS funds toward a second major.

  • Please note that books, incidental expenses, class or program-related fees, and summer session tuition are not covered by the Future Scholarship.

  • The Laurens County Future Scholarship tuition funding and awards are contingent on funding revenue being received by the Future Scholarship program.

how it works

There are a few simple rules to qualify for and keep the scholarship.

  • Students apply to the college of their choice and pay the application fee (if required).

  • Students submit the Federal Financial Aid application (FAFSA).

  • Students must have completed the two steps above and registered for classed by:

    • August 1 (Fall Term)

    • December 1 (Spring Term)

  • Students must meet the same criteria for making satisfactory academic progress that recipients of federal financial aid programs must meet. Students who lose their financial aid eligibility due to failing to meet the satisfactory academic progress rules will be ineligible for future terms.

  • Summer sessions are not eligible for funding.
